Benefits of Moving to an Over 55’s Lifestyle Village

As we approach retirement, our priorities and needs often change. For many of us, spending more time with our families becomes a top priority.

While it’s well known that over 55s lifestyle villages are a great option for retirees who want to live a comfortable, active and social lifestyle, many would-be residents often hesitate around a few questions:

Can my family visit me in a retirement village? Can my grandchildren use the facilities? Will I still be able to live near them? Can I bring my pets?

Something that makes Teman communities an even more appealing choice is that many are close to new housing estates and regional residential centres where children and grandchildren might be living.

This makes them an excellent option for quick catch-ups with the kids and grandkids, and adventures around the local area.

And the best part? Families are allowed to visit each Teman community whenever they like, and they’re allowed to use the facilities too.

Spending Time with Family

For Lindsay, a resident of Ridge Estate by Teman in Gillieston Heights, spending time with family is one of the best parts of his new community.

“The village is a great spot for parents to live and be close to their children and grandchildren.”

Lindsay says that “family is everything” to him and his wife, Judy, and that their grandkids are their life.

The pair enjoy helping out with their youngest grandson – a keen swimmer who loves the pool – and following their grandkids’ sporting events, such as football and netball.

“It’s really good to bring your grandkids over. We try to get together about once every three months with the family. We have a barbecue and book the community centre, which is available to anybody.”

Benefits of Moving to an Over 55’s Retirement Village

There are scores of benefits to moving into an over 55s lifestyle village.

Not only is it a great opportunity to be close to your family, but it’s also a great way to downsize and simplify your life, making way for a whole host of new and familiar activities.

From golf, swimming and bowling to art groups, happy hour and so much more – Teman communities are filled with things to do and like-minded people to do them with. And the best part is, you can do as much or as little as you like.

Additionally, all of our communities are located in or near major cities and regional hubs, meaning you can still get out and do all the things you’re used to. Lindsay and Judy also place a lot of value in having all of their regular amenities nearby:

“We have Pender Place, which is only three or four kilometres away, Green Hills Shopping Center, which is ten minutes away, and there is a new local IGA on the top of the hill. So there are lots of facilities around for shopping.”

Lifestyle Living

Moving into a retirement village doesn’t mean sacrificing your lifestyle. In fact, with less time spent on chores, maintenance, and repairs, you’ll have more time for the places, people, and pastimes that you love.

In addition to making the most of the activities, hobbies, and friendships with all their newfound time, Lindsay and Judy love having their grandkids come to stay, and they’re not the only ones:

“There are lots of other residents within the village that have their grandkids over, and all the kids seem to enjoy being here. And I know that a lot of the residents that don’t have grandchildren really enjoy seeing those other kids enjoying their stay here.”

And when we say that moving into a lifestyle village doesn’t mean saying goodbye to parts of your life that you love, we mean it:

All Teman communities are pet friendly. Why? Because they’re part of the family too.

So no matter which Teman community you call home, we’re confident that you’ll find everything you know you need, plenty more on top, and more new friends than you’ll know what to do with.

Because there are no strangers here, just friends you haven’t met yet.
